For folks who have experienced sexual violence, for those who’ve been disbelieved or blamed, and for anyone feeling the weight of this moment, you are not alone. Your pain is real. Your story matters. At SHORE, we believe survivors. We believe in your dignity, your autonomy, and your right to be heard and supported, without needing to prove your worthiness or perfect your story. This is a moment to hold each other close and to stay rooted in the truth: sexual violence is systemic. It is not about one case or one verdict. It is about a culture that protects power over people. At SHORE Centre, our work in sexual and reproductive health happens within a broader history, one shaped by colonial systems that have deeply impacted access to care for Indigenous peoples. This month, and every month, we hold that awareness close as we work toward a future where reproductive access is safe, equitable, and affirming for all. Indigenous History Month invites us to honour the strength, knowledge, and leadership of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. For us as a settler-led organization, it’s also a reminder that we have a responsibility to create and advocate for care systems that center consent, dignity, and community-led solutions. National Indigenous Peoples Day is Saturday, June 21. SHORE Centre is closed today, June 20 in recognition of the day. For settler staff and community members, this is a time to slow down and reflect: How has the history of this place shaped the care we offer today? What does meaningful access look like, and who is still being left out? How can we make space for Indigenous voices, wisdom, and leadership in all we do? 📚 We’ll be sharing resources to support learning and reflection.
