On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the Eldorado Resort’s Manteo Waterfront Room filled with pride, emotion, and hope as the fourth cohort of OCCA’s Job Connect for Future (JCF) program graduated in front of family, friends, dignitaries, and community supporters. JCF is a powerful collaboration between OCCA Communities Association and Okanagan College. This year’s ceremony was especially significant. Taking place in OCCA’s 15th year of service, it reflected the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting newcomers through tailored, impactful programs grounded in lived experience and deep community care. OCCA Board Directors Bella Mockford and Charisse Daley, together with President Fassina proudly presented graduation certificates to the students—symbolizing a united commitment from both educational and community leadership in celebrating the achievements of equity-deserving individuals, including immigrants, refugees, and racialized groups who continue to face systemic barriers to employment. OC is honoured to be part of a program that’s not just about employment, but about belonging. There is no place for intramurals pickup games or tournaments and no home side venue for the OC Coyotes basketball and baseball teams to train. When the College community comes together to celebrate convocation we dont have a large indoor central hub or space. This needs to change and thats why were prioritizing a new Recreation and Wellness Centre.
