Other Sights for Artists' Projects Association

Other Sights for Artists' Projects Association is a Canadian nonprofit arts collective based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Incorporated as a non-profit society in May 2005 (Business Registration Number: 833896145RR0001), the organization focuses on supporting and presenting temporary public art projects in spaces accessible to a broad public[1][3][4].

The association's mandate emphasizes engaging with the aesthetic, economic, and regulatory conditions of public places and public life. It aims to create a presence for art outside traditional gallery settings by developing innovative and unexpected exhibition platforms. Other Sights supports artists, writers, and curators in producing critically rigorous temporary works situated in highly visible, often unconventional locations, including the built environment like streets and parks, as well as through media and communication technologies[1][3][5].

Operating as an artist-run center, Other Sights is a member of the Pacific Association of Artist Run Centers (PAARC). The organization functions as a collective of individuals with expertise in curation, project management, presentation, delivery, and promotion of public art projects. Its activities include collaborating with various organizations and sharing resources to realize projects that challenge perceptions, encourage public discourse, and promote diverse perspectives on shared social spaces[1][3][5].

Other Sights presents a variety of artworks, publications, events, and programs that carefully consider the intersections of art, public engagement, and regulatory frameworks governing public spaces. This approach ensures that art remains active and responsive within the public realm, fostering community interaction and critical reflection[3][4][5].

As a registered charity under the Canada Revenue Agency, Other Sights for Artists' Projects Association relies on public support and philanthropic donations to sustain its mission of integrating art into everyday public life[4].
