As the school year has kicked off for most of our children in North America, this past week school began for children in Haiti. These past few years those living in Haiti have been faced with much violence, poverty, and unknowns for their futures as the gangs have overtaken many areas and the government has more or less fallen. Many have lost hope and are constantly living in survival mode. We have numerous children that we have supported throughout the years to ensure that they were given opportunities for their futures. However, with the lack of stability and myself (Emily) being able to be on the grounds, it has made it extremely difficult to fundraise to keep our heads above water. We’ve done our best to continue to provide the bare necessities (shelter, food, medical care, education) but it has grown increasingly difficult. Although we’ve been able to secure sponsorship for a handful of the children, there are still many we’ve supported over the years that still do not have school sponsors. We are hoping to raise enough funds to cover the school tuition, uniforms, and book costs for the remaining children. The money raised from this fundraiser will cover the entire school year tuition plus the items mentioned above. We truly believe that right now these children need their education more than ever. They need Hope. They need opportunity. They need somewhere that they can look forward to going every day and to just be normal children. They need a focus and a purpose instead of constantly worrying and fearing what’s happening around them. Please help us to give these children hope and opportunity in a time of grave darkness.
