This was an early donation by Maria Ropchan (nee Scraba) who immigrated to Wostok, Alberta in 1897 at the age of 13. It was embroidered by her sister in 1896 in Bukovyna. As many of you may know we will be hosting our 80th Anniversary on May 3, 6:30-10pm @ St.John's Cultural Centre in Edmonton. We will be presenting our exhibit, Collections & Recollections! As we lead up to this wonderful celebration we thought we would present some of our treasured items. Our very first donation was in 1944 by Michaline (Lena) Budnick. It originates from the province of northern Bukovyna. It is a "khlopianka" cut with the sleeves resembling a stylized Bukovynian tree or branch. This beautiful blouse will be greeting each of you as you enter our 80th celebration. In 1932 Michalina Budnick became president of the St.John's Branch of the Ukrainian Woman's Association of Canada (est. 1926), a position she held for 7 and a half years. We will have information highlighting the many donors of our museum alongside some of the articles donated. Something we will be asking attendees is to Don Your Vyshyvanka and become part of the exhibit!
