Sometimes we avoid asking someone a hard question, because are nervous about their response. Asking someone if they are thinking about suicide is an act of compassion. We can let people know that we notice them, care about them and want them to be safe by asking them directly about suicide when we are concerned. Suicide is not a bad word.
