Join CWAVS in sharing the Moose Hide Campaign 🫎 About the Campaign from the Moose Hide Website: "The Moose Hide Campaign began as a BC-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage men and boys in ending violence towards women and children. It has since grown into a nationwide movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians from local communities, First Nations, governments, schools, colleges/universities, police forces and many other organizations – all committed to taking action to end this violence. The Moose Hide Campaign recognizes that all forms of violence are unacceptable, regardless of gender. We see the disproportionate number of women who are victims and the importance of engaging men and boys in addressing this issue. We also know that 'shame and blame' isn’t the answer. The campaign is grounded in Indigenous ceremony and traditional ways of learning and healing. A cornerstone of the Moose Hide Campaign is the moose hide pin. Wearing the pin signifies your commitment to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in your life and speak out against gender-based and domestic violence. To date, over four million moose hide pins have been distributed free of charge to communities, schools, and workplaces across Canada." You can order Moose Hide Pins free of charge for your workplace or organization on their website at www.moosehidecampaign.ca The Moose Hide Campaign estimates that each pin sparks 5 conversations. Discussing social issues widely that are negatively impacting our communities is the first step to reaching social change. Together, we can end gender-based violence 💜 #mmiwg2s #endviolenceagainstwomenandchildren #endviolence #moosehidecampaign #moosehidecampaignday #strongertogether (fb)
We are thrilled to announce that the Cowichan Women Against Violence Society has a new Executive Director, Liza Scott!💜✨ Liza Scott (she/her) is a proud Quw'utsun and Pacheedaht woman, residential school survivor, and transformational leader with over 20 years of experience advancing justice, healing, and equity for Indigenous women, families, and communities. Previously, Liza served as Executive Director at Haven Society and was the national lead for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) initiative. She is also the co-founder of an Indigenous-owned business that features Coast Salish art. Now serving as Executive Director of Cowichan Women Against Violence Society (CWAVS), Liza leads with courage, cultural integrity, and a deep commitment to decolonizing systems from within. Her approach centers community, honours Indigenous knowledge, and supports the wellbeing of all staff—including those who are neurodivergent, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, or from other equity-denied groups. Since joining CWAVS, Liza has initiated a number of strategic and values-driven changes, including: • Kw’i Lelum (Rise House): Naming and launching the Second Stage housing program in partnership with an Elder and Hul’qu’mi’num language knowledge-keeper. • Policy Renewal: Overseeing a complete rewrite of CWAVS policies through an anti-oppression and Indigenous lens. • Inclusive Leadership: Fostering a workplace culture that supports neurodiversity, embraces intersectionality, and encourages staff reflection, learning, and care. • Structural Strengthening: Standardizing roles, job descriptions, and performance tools to improve clarity, consistency, and equity across the organization. A proud mother and grandmother, Liza grounds her leadership in the strength of her ancestors and the responsibility to future generations. “We rise by lifting others—and by honouring the voices of those who were never meant to be silenced.” Join us in welcoming Liza as Executive Director! 🙌 (fb)
