Avalon Centre Society
The Avalon Centre Society is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to ending sexualized violence and supporting individuals affected by it. Established as a feminist-driven entity, the society focuses on providing comprehensive services aimed at addressing sexual assault and abuse while promoting systemic and social change in Nova Scotia and surrounding communities.
Mission and Vision
Avalon Centre Society operates through a feminist framework to analyze and respond to sexualized violence and other intersecting forms of oppression. Its core mission is to offer an array of specialized services emphasizing support, counseling, education, immediate medical care, forensic evaluation, leadership, and advocacy. The organization’s services extend to survivors of all forms of sexualized violence and abuse, their families, the public, and allied support and service providers.
The society envisions a society where individuals are empowered and collectively responsible for creating communities free from sexualized violence and abuse. It aims to play a leadership role in raising awareness, supporting survivors, holding perpetrators accountable, and influencing changes in social and political systems.
Programs and Services
Avalon Centre Society provides a continuum of services grounded in community engagement and feminist principles. These include:

We are seeking an experienced Group Trauma Therapist to join our team in a part-time capacity. They will lead and support group-based therapy programming as the primary therapist responsible for group services within our organization. As a member of the Sexual Violence Trauma Therapy Program (SVTTP), this position will focus on the development, facilitation, and evaluation of therapeutic trauma groups for individuals of all gender identities (ages 15+) who have experienced sexualized and gender-based violence. Services are offered in person or online, with the majority of this role’s work being group-based. Some evening work will be required.
