Species Spotlight: Shrubby Cinquefoil (Dasiphora fruticosa) Shrubby Cinquefoil is a hardy deciduous shrub in the Rosaceae (rose) family. It is found throughout North America. Shrubby Cinquefoil grows up to 1m tall and has greenish-blue, narrow, and elliptical leaves. Similar to Ninebark, its stems start to appear shredded as it ages. Shrubby cinquefoil blooms from June to September with yellow five-petaled flowers in small clusters on terminal branches. Its flowers are beneficial to pollinators. Come fall, these flowers give way to inedible oval-shaped brown fruit similar to a dried strawberry. Shrubby Cinquefoil is commonly fed on by herbivores including rabbits and deer, so protective measures to ensure survival are encouraged if they are planted.
