St. Croix Estuary Project Inc.

St. Croix Estuary Project Inc. (SCEP) is a science-based Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the ecosystem health of the St. Croix Estuary area and its resources. Established in 1992, the organization focuses on fostering community-based responses to environmental challenges.

History and Funding

SCEP was one of the original sites funded by Environment Canada and the Environmental Trust Fund under the Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP). This financial support has enabled SCEP to provide ongoing environmental monitoring services in the St. Croix Estuary since its inception.

Ganong Nature Park

In 2002, SCEP acquired the Ganong Nature Park with significant community support and a contribution from the Whidden Ganong estate. The park spans 350 acres, featuring tidal estuary, fields, and forest areas adjacent to the St. Croix River and Oak Bay. It offers several kilometers of trails and other outdoor spaces used by local residents for various recreational activities.

Mission and Activities

As a parent organization of the Ganong Nature Park, SCEP aims to promote environmental stewardship through community engagement and scientific research. The organization has received funding for its environmental projects, including a notable contribution of $70,150 in 2014 from the Canadian government.

St. Croix Estuary Project Inc. is a registered charity in Canada, with a business registration number of 135939643RR0001. It operates as a community-driven initiative to protect and improve the ecological health of the St. Croix Estuary.
