May is Speech and Hearing Month — an opportunity to shine a light on the challenges many people face with communication, hearing and swallowing and to recognize the professionals who help improve quality of life every day. At Mackenzie Health, we’re proud of our dedicated Speech Language Pathology (SLP) team, including Rebecca, whose passion helps patients regain their voices and confidence every day. Since joining us in 2021, Rebecca has become the Professional Practice Leader for Speech Language Pathology. She supports patients facing communication and swallowing challenges, often after strokes or serious illness. “Being able to order a coffee, enjoy a meal or have a conversation — these everyday moments are easy to take for granted,” Rebecca shares. “For our patients, regaining those abilities is life changing.” She uses advanced tools like the Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS), a real-time X-ray that guides personalized treatment.
