Homes are lost, families are separated, and communities are fractured. These impacts often remain long after physical safety is restored, undermining recovery and resilience. The UN recommends promoting mental well-being through various approaches. This day of recognition was established through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 80, ensuring that the public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital part of reconciliation. As we mark 10 years since the Calls to Action were released, we are reminded that reconciliation is an ongoing journey that continually deserves our reflection, listening, and commitment to supporting healing and justice.
