As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we honour the incredible vision and dedication of our founder, Laurie Bennett. In 1985, Laurie, a palliative care professional at a local hospital, recognized the urgent need for a community-based service to support individuals at the end of their lives. From her dining room table, Laurie began organizing what would become Hospice of Peel (now Hospice Mississauga), starting with a single volunteer training program and 18 individuals receiving care in their homes. Her vision laid the foundation for what has grown into a thriving community of compassionate caregivers. By the time Laurie retired in 2000, our organization had expanded exponentially, touching countless lives with the support of our dedicated volunteers and team. Laurie Bennett passed away in 2003, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and lasting impact on her community. Laurie’s daughter, Brenda, continues to honour her mother’s legacy through her active involvement with Hospice Mississauga, helping to support and advocate for the community her mother so passionately served.
