Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry / L'Académie Canadienne de Psychiatrie Gériatrique

The Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry (CAGP), also known in French as L'Académie Canadienne de Psychiatrie Gériatrique, is a national organization dedicated to enhancing the mental health of older adults in Canada. Founded in 1991, it is recognized as the voice of geriatric psychiatry in the country.

Mission

CAGP's mission is to promote mental health among the Canadian elderly population through its members' clinical, educational, research, and advocacy activities. The organization aims to foster professional and academic excellence in the field of geriatric psychiatry. It seeks to be key opinion leaders in education, research, and public policy on psychiatric issues affecting Canadian seniors.

Structure and Membership

CAGP has over 300 members and operates with an Executive, Board, and supporting committee structure. It is a member of the Council of Academies of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, which underscores its significance in the field of psychiatry.

Initiatives and Partnerships

One of CAGP's major initiatives is the Canadian Coalition for Seniors' Mental Health (CCSMH), which focuses on advocating for and promoting seniors' mental health by connecting people, ideas, and resources. The CCSMH provides updates on initiatives in seniors' mental health to its affiliates through regular communications and newsletters.
