I think it was my coworker Gray Gillies Mott who would say, "it's only a tug of war if you both pick up the rope." To that I'll add my own nugget of wisdom: "Give people grace and give those same people space. The more grace they need, the more space you need." It applies to erratic drivers, angry parents, lovers, teachers, bosses, everyone. It can mean going to the bathroom to lie down on the floor with your back on the tiles to temp regulate. It can mean fleeing the country with a new identity and no clothes. If something costs you your peace, it's costing you way too much. (fb)
