We got a lesson on Calgary's native plant species down at Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society 🌾 For the second year in a row, the Friends of Fish Creek are Emerald Award recipients (‼️) - this time for their Grow With Us program, which rescues native plants from development sites and redistributes them to community members, schools, and gardens. In 2024 alone, the program salvaged 15,000 native plants and 5.5 kg of seeds from over 100 grassland species. During our visit to film their Emerald Documentary Series feature, we visited the banks of Fish Creek, discovering the native plants protecting it from erosion, the site of an old barn that now hosts numerous genetically diverse native plant species, and even had the chance to plant a few of our own! It's programs like this that are enhancing our province's ecosystems to be resilient and sustainable for generations to come 🌱 #Calgary #YYC #FishCreek #YYCLiving #CalgaryAlberta #Alberta #ProvincialPark #nativeplants #biodiversity (fb)
Day one of filming = done ✅ We made the 5+ hour trek from Edmonton to Lethbridge to film with the Oldman Watershed Council (OWC) for season seven of the Emerald Documentary Series! We learned about the challenges that the Oldman River faces (reduced water levels and water quality, to name a few) and how the council is working to address those challenges and build a healthier watershed! Here are a few facts about the watershed you might not know: 💧 It covers 23,000 km² in southwestern Alberta and 2100 km² in Montana 💧 There are approximately 210,000 residents living in the Oldman watershed 💧 The Oldman River flows into the South Saskatchewan River Basin, which provides water to around 3 million residents! The big takeaway from this shoot? Water is the building block of nearly everything in life and we need to do all we can to protect it! 💚 #Alberta #Oldmanriver #watershed #waterconservation #lethbridge #YQL (fb)
