Nearly 1,200 Special Olympians from Across Ontario will converge on Brantford in July, as the City of Brantford hosts the 2025 Provincial Summer Games, presented by the Wayne Gretzky Foundation. Heather Kruis and Patti Mitchell, both parents of Special Olympian Athletes, explained details of the event during a presentation to the Club this week. The two have volunteered with the Special Olympics for more than 10 years. The competitions, to be held July 10th to 13th, will be in five different categories - Athletics, Bocce, Golf, Soccer and Softball. The Brantford Games will include a Women's Division for soccer, a first for the Summer Games. These games are also the first in the province to have the support of 3 police services - Brantford Police Service, Brant County OPP, and Six Nations Police. The guest speakers were thanked by Rotarian Paul Harding. Rotary Sunrise made a $1,000.00 donation in support of the Games.
