Established in 1984, The Food Bank has evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of its community, continually striving to ensure that no individual in the Waterloo region experiences hunger. It has been instrumental in establishing a robust network of food assistance programs across the region.

The mission of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is to obtain and distribute essential food through community partnerships, emphasizing the importance of supporting neighbors within the community. Operations

The Food Bank functions primarily as a distribution center rather than a direct service provider. It works closely with the Cambridge Food Bank to lead the Community Food Assistance Network, which encompasses over 54 organizations and more than 132 food assistance programs. These programs provide a range of services, including food hampers, community meals, nutritional outreach, and meals for shelters and residential facilities. All operations are conducted following the Ethical Food Banking Code to ensure service delivery with dignity and respect.

The organization acquires food through community food drives, food recovery programs, and corporate partnerships, ensuring a reliable supply of safe and nutritious food for its network partners.
