Ottawa Regional Science Fair
The Ottawa Regional Science Fair (ORSF) is a non-profit organization aimed at encouraging students in the Ottawa-Carleton Region to engage in science and engineering projects. The fair is organized exclusively by volunteers and is open to students from grades 7 to 12 in both public and private schools within the region.
Purpose and Activities
The primary purpose of the ORSF is to promote scientific research and development among young students. Each year, the organization hosts a science fair where students can present their projects. These projects span various topics, including but not limited to:
- Discovery: Creating new fundamental knowledge.
- Energy: Improving current energy sources or transitioning to alternative ones.
- Environment: Reducing environmental impact or improving environmental quality.
- Health: Enhancing understanding of the human body or applying science to improve health.
- Information: Enhancing communication using digital technologies.
- Innovation: Developing new materials, structures, devices, or systems.
- Resources: Developing sustainable uses for natural resources.
Awards and Competitions
The fair includes competitions in several categories: Junior (grades 7 and 8), Intermediate (grades 9 and 10), and Senior (grades 11 and 12), along with special awards. Students who participate have the opportunity to win cash awards and scholarships. Notably, winners may also qualify to compete in the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF), where they represent the Ottawa-Carleton Region.
Structure and Funding
The Ottawa Regional Science Fair is a registered charity and relies entirely on donations and volunteer efforts to operate. It awards over $25,000 in prizes annually, which includes covering expenses for participants selected to attend the CWSF.

The organization thanks several sponsors for their contributions, highlighting their role in supporting the development of STEM skills among students in the Ottawa-Carleton area. These include Titanium, Gold, and Silver sponsors, along with special mentions to The Graham Family Foundation and an Anonymous Donor.

Community Involvement

Ottawa Regional Science Fair Expo Sciences Regionale dOttawa About The Ottawa Regional Science Fair is organized and run by a volunteer organization to encourage students in the OttawaCarleton Region from grades 7 to 12 to research develop and present projects in the fields of science and engineering. Students from both public and private schools in the region are invited to enter projects in the fair. Each year approximately 200 projects are entered and judged in the Junior grades 7 and 8 Intermediate grades 9 and 10 senior grades 11 and 12 and special awards categories. The awards and prizes include cash awards and scholarships.
