The Bavubuka Foundation Society
The Bavubuka Foundation Society is a Canadian nonprofit organization registered under business number 843656968RR0001. It is dedicated to empowering youth through music, arts, and creative expression as a means to transform lives and unify diverse communities both within Canada and internationally.
Mission and Vision
The foundation believes that connecting young people with music and the arts can foster personal empowerment and communal unity. Its mission centers on creating safe spaces and educational programs that nurture a new generation of young leaders who harness their voices to inspire positive change in their communities and beyond. Bavubuka integrates reconciliation and peace-building initiatives that utilize transformative art to cultivate personal and collective growth.
History and Leadership
Founded by Silas Balabyekkubo (also known as Babaluku), an award-winning musician, producer, youth activist, and social entrepreneur, the foundation emerged from years of dialogue and engagement with youth and elders across Uganda, Canada, and the United States. Since 2005, Babaluku has focused on bridging gaps between marginalized youth and opportunities for growth by using multiple forms of artistic expression to inspire solution-driven actions.
Programs and Initiatives
The Bavubuka Foundation runs a variety of programs designed to build skills, foster creativity, and empower youth leadership, including:

B-Global Indigenous Hip Hop Gatherings: Educational platforms celebrating and strengthening indigenous hip hop voices in Uganda and beyond.

Bavubuka Nation Program: Bringing together young creative leaders to develop sustainable and innovative community solutions with long-term impact.

Mugga Village: A sustainable community initiative focused on professional skills development, alternative education, entrepreneurship, digital and financial literacy, climate change adaptation, and cultural preservation.

Phenomenal Girls Workshops: Series of workshops aimed at empowering young girls through creative arts and leadership skills.
The foundation places strong emphasis on access to professional learning spaces and mentorship, particularly for gifted youth from marginalized communities, fostering environments where they can share stories, reflect, and build purposeful lives.
Global Reach
While based in Canada, Bavubuka's work extends deeply into Uganda and Africa at large, connecting youth to both local and global peace-building movements through arts and culture.
Impact
The Bavubuka Foundation’s multifaceted approach supports marginalized and diaspora communities by providing resources and education to young leaders. It encourages youth to develop skills, express creativity, and cultivate relationships that contribute towards building stronger, more inclusive communities and a hopeful future.

Exclusive Invitation – Premiere of Woven Worlds Exhibition This invitation-only event marks the premiere of a landmark collaboration between Ugandan designer Katende Godfrey (IGC Fashion) and Salford Slow Fashion (UK). Woven Worlds is dedicated to zero-waste design and the legacy of Uganda’s Lubugo (barkcloth) textile, reflecting on the relationship between Manchester’s cotton industry and the decline of Olubugo in Uganda. Doors open and musical performances will begin promptly from 5pm. The official exhibition opening will occur at 7.00pm, after which there will be a premiere screening of Beyond Bark: Legacy of the Lubugo Textile, (co-produced by IGC Fashion and V&A). The evening will continue with cocktails, performances and conversation until 9:00pm. Your presence at this premiere would mean a great deal to us.
