PSA: Please note -- the maps at the various junctions in the Rec Site will be temporarily taken down for updating, and replaced when the new signs are done. We recommend printing off maps from the website to take with you, and carrying a compass, as maps and compasses are not only more reliable but also easier to read in summer sunshine than your devices. If you wonder, as I did, why we don't just switch out the maps when the updated ones are ready, it's because we need to re-use the metal plates they're on -- the metal plates are part of the signs. Be aware that a skier and dogs recently encountered a cougar on Maureen's Thrill, during daylight hours; the cougar did not immediately leave -- thought about it for a moment or two first. It's unusual to see a cougar out in daylight -- they're around, but they usually choose not to be seen. Rumours also indicate that the remains of a snowshoe hare were evident on the route between Red Dog and Mosquito. (fb)
