It's Moose Hide Campaign Day, and #EIPS students and staff divisionwide are taking a stand against gender-based violence and wearing moose hide pins to show their commitment. Indigenous Lead Educator Ashlyn Moses at Ardrossan Junior Senior High organized school-wide lessons to help teachers guide students in exploring the significance of the campaign. These lessons encouraged thoughtful conversations about respect, empathy and the role we all play in making a difference. The school, and all of EIPS, are proud to be part of this important movement and remain committed to fostering a culture of awareness, action and reconciliation. "Wearing a Moose Hide pin is a demand for the elimination of gender-based and domestic violence against Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people. It's a commitment to ending the erasure of Indigeneity. The Moose Hide Campaign is our opportunity to call into light the system of oppression that for centuries has existed in the shadows. The Moose Hide Campaign reminds us there's work to be done." - Ashlyn Moses, Indigenous Lead Educator, Ardrossan Junior Senior High (fb)
Lakeland Ridge School students in grades 6 and 8 learned how to be upstanders through a learning initiative developed by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. From racism to gender inequality, students created projects focused on various human rights topics and real-world issues. They presented their projects in a showcase to their junior high peers, families and community. Learn more: bit.ly/4dkzXxU (fb)
