Last month, we read botanist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer's work, The Serviceberry for our Intersectional Feminist Book Club! 🌿 We started the evening with reading bingo to learn more about ourselves as bookworms, shared in homemade dips and sweet loaves, and dived into a free flow discussion on gift economies and how we see this reflected in the cities that we live in. Whilst this year’s book club is full, you can buddy read with us as a member! 📚️ Our next book that we'll be reading is From the Ashes, a memoir by Jesse Thistle in July. If you're interested to learn more about joining WTC as a member, visit our membership page here: https://www.womentransformingcities.org/membership . . . . . . . . . [First photo is from WTC's Intersectional Feminist book club hangout, and shows a table laden with food, stickers, and Robin Wall Kimmerer's book, The Serviceberry. There is a lemon blueberry loaf on a wooden board, a bowl of candy, and a bowl of chips. Scattered are Women Transforming Cities stickers. The next two slides are quotes from Robin Wall Kimmerer's book. The fourth slide shows WTC's Intersectional Feminist Book Club's reads for 2025. April was Robin Wall Kimmerer's The Serviceberry. July will be Jesse Thistle's From the Ashes, and October Ian Williams' What I Meant to Say. The last slide shows what WTC members gain access to for their membership.] (fb)
Our next field trip will be a walking tour with WTC Founder and Matriarch Ellen Woodsworth! Join us on Sunday, June 8th at 1:00 PM for a community walk beginning at Cross & Crows Books, as we explore places of significance for women, gender-diverse, and queer communities along Commercial Drive. Inspired by the spirit of a Jane’s Walk, this one-hour stroll offers an opportunity to learn about the rich social and cultural histories embedded within a local Vancouver neighbourhood. This will be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of inclusive public spaces and shared histories, with a focus on resilience, activism, and community belonging. Register to save your spot: https://form-can.keela.co/field-trip-walking-tour-and-ice-cream-social . . . . . . . . . [Event poster for Women Transforming Cities' summer field trip. The title reads "Walking Tour & Ice Cream Social." There is a photo of Commercial Drive and a smaller photo in a circular frame of Ellen Woodsworth. Underneath the photos are the date and time of the event which reads "Sunday, June 8th, 2025 1:00–2:30 pm." WTC's logo is at the bottom. There are small doodles and outlines decorating the event poster, including clouds, paper clip, squiggles, yellow tape, and a map icon.] (fb)
