On April 23rd, we welcomed 50 volunteers from Foresters Financial to Evergreen Brick Works to begin planting an urban Food Forest on site as part of their Growing a Better Future initiative. The Food Forest will be an urban respite for native plant species, mimicking the natural ecosystem. Foresters employees worked hard to dig the ground up to make room for the planting of the canopy layer -- which included Shagbark Hickory, Cedar, Spruce and Basswood. We look forward to seeing these trees take root and to continue planting the Food Forest with our partners from Foresters Financial throughout the spring! (fb)
