British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa
The British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) is a registered Canadian nonprofit genealogical organization (Business Registration Number: 892274044RR0001) established in 1994. REMINDER: Tomorrow, Saturday 10 May is our hybrid monthly meeting, online or in-person at Knox Presbyterian Church (120 Lisgar St. at the corner of Elgin Street). At 9 am EDT, Marnie McCall will present “From the Vaults: Copyright for the Family Historian”. Marnie will cover the basics of copyright; the meaning of public domain; copyright in your own work; using copyrighted material of others; and copyright in family photos and letters. At 10 am EDT, Kristen Den Hartog will present “The Roosting Box: Rebuilding the Body After the First World War” After WWI, a military hospital opened in 1919 in Toronto. Kristen will share stories of patients and staff, from her book of the same name, and have books available for sale. At 10 am EDT, Kristen den Hartog will present “The Roosting Box: Rebuilding the Body After the First World War" After WWI, a military hospital opened in 1919 in Toronto, intended to be temporary but lasting until WWII. Kristen will share stories of patients and staff – including a home child seeking family, a tuberculosis patient who married his nurse, and a sculptor crafting masks for wounded soldiers – exploring their post-war challenges through letters, diaries and records. Kristen's book The Roosting Box: Rebuilding the Body After the First World War was shortlisted for 2024 Toronto Book Awards.
