On September 30 we recognize #OrangeShirtDay, or the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to remember the victims and survivors of residential schools and the ongoing impacts of the residential school system. This image, created by Andy Emerson in 2016 in recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children’s sense of self-esteem and well-being is also an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters. It has been 10 years since the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada were released. In that time, only 15 have been completed and 40% are either not started or stalled. Residential schools are not ancient history. Reconciliation is an ongoing generational task. (fb)
