UPDATE: We want to thank all those who wrote to their government, voicing their concern for the environment, Indigenous rights, and labour rights in light of Bill 5. We are sad to say that despite our advising against it, the Ontario government has passed Bill 5 into a law, giving them the prerogative to speed up development projects by ignoring environmental, municipal, and labour laws, as well as consultation with Indigenous communities. We are truly disappointed to hear of the government’s disregard for the environment, the citizens, and the long-term well-being of Ontario communities. But we also know that even if the outcome was not what we wanted, it was still necessary to speak out against this wrongdoing. Now, more than ever, our willingness to stand up for the preservation of the environment and for Indigenous reconciliation matters. We will continue to work towards a healthy and sustainable environment for the shared benefit of all those who live within it, and we hope you will too. (fb)
