On May 14, 2025, the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights hosted 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦: 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 in honour of National Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2025. An expert panel of legal professionals, advocates, and community members came together to explore the impacts of policing on communities, the role of the law in confronting systemic injustice, and how legal professionals can be supported in their practice. Our Land Education Team is excitedly preparing for 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: 𝗔 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, taking place this weekend in and on amiskwaciwâskahikan. The enthusiasm and action of this gathering has us reflecting back to May, when a few members of the JHC had the privilege to join educators and knowledge keepers on the Chippewas of Rama First Nation in Ontario to collaborate in building the framework of our on-the-land gathering for educators.
