Kelowna Caring Canines Society
The Kelowna Caring Canines Society is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to providing pet therapy services throughout the Greater Kelowna area. Established in 1996, the organization was formerly known as the Pets and People Visiting Society before adopting its current name.
Mission and Services
Kelowna Caring Canines Society focuses on improving the quality of life for seniors, patients, students, and community members by fostering a bond between humans and animals. The organization conducts visits to various facilities, including medical facilities, residential care homes, educational institutions, and even the Kelowna Airport. These visits not only provide emotional support and comfort but also offer educational opportunities, highlighting the therapeutic benefits of animal companionship.
Operations and Impact
The society operates with 100% volunteer membership, relying on dog owners and their pets to volunteer for therapy sessions. Annually, they provide over 5,500 hours of pet therapy services. The breadth of their outreach includes major institutions such as Kelowna General Hospital and the Cancer Lodge. To sustain these services, the organization depends on donations and sponsorships from the community.

Have you met Tommy? Tommy is a Meremma which is an Italian breed of livestock guardian dog. He weighs 150 pounds and is 6 years old. He is a chill fellow who spends his days resting for his nights guarding his cows and chickens on his farm in Kelowna. Tommy is very social and loves visiting as a Kelowna Caring Canine even though he likes to lay down on the job. He has some very special fans at Step Place, where he likes to get lots of belly rubs from the clients. #dogswithjobs #caringcanines #pettherapyisthebesttherapy (fb)

KELOWNA CARING CANINES Kelowna Caring Canines Society Showing care by offering Pet Therapy in the greater Kelowna Area Kelowna Caring Canines Society is a longtime nonprofit organization that is committed to building a stronger bond between dogs and humans. We train our handlers and their dogs to take them to sensitive places such as our local hospital residential care homes educational institutions and provide dog and handler teams for the Kelowna Airport Ambassadog Program. Pet therapy has been recognized as a legitimate and beneficial treatment in boosting the mental and physical wellbeing of people. From our years of experience in offering pet therapy services we have been able to offer a variety of pet therapy programs throughout Kelowna.
