C.R.R.S. CULTURE REGENERATION RESEARCH SOCIETY

The C.R.R.S. Culture Regeneration Research Society (Business Registration Number: 898951660RR0001) is a Canadian nonprofit organization established in 1994. It is a non-political, non-denominational, academic organization dedicated to cultural regeneration, academic exchange, and social transformation with a focus on Chinese culture and its interaction with global philosophies[1][3].

History and Background

Founded in Vancouver, Canada, the Culture Regeneration Research Society was born from the vision of Dr. Thomas In-Sing Leung, who in 1993 gathered a group of overseas Chinese with the mission to regenerate both Western and Chinese cultures by sharing noble values and classic philosophies through academic and cultural ministries. Since its inception, CRRS has expanded internationally, establishing affiliated offices in the United States in 1996 and Hong Kong in 1998[3][4].

Vision and Mission

CRRS envisions fostering a new Chinese consciousness that is deeply rooted in China’s proud heritage while embracing the rich diversity of global cultures, knowledge, thought, and creativity. This integrated enlightenment is intended to become a spiritual resource for the world[1].

The mission of the society is to inspire China's future generations with awareness of their own potential and to provide them with essential tools that enable the fulfillment of their aspirations. CRRS strives to achieve this through four strategic directions:

  • Understanding contemporary developments in Chinese culture through academic dialogue.
  • Promoting mutual understanding and harmonization between Chinese and Western cultures, spiritual disciplines, religious thoughts, and modern philosophies.
  • Encouraging this emerging Chinese consciousness to contribute positively to global renewal.
  • Demonstrating these principles through practical, measurable actions[1].

Ministries and Activities

The society operates through six main ministries that support its mission and strategic goals. These include:

  • Subsidizing scholars from mainland China to study contemporary Western thought and moral/spiritual disciplines.
  • Enabling overseas scholars to research developments in contemporary Chinese culture.
  • Supporting research on social and cultural reform processes within China.
  • Publishing academic research and organizing forums for scholarly exchange.
  • Initiating educational programs such as the "Basic Education Program" in rural China and Christian study initiatives in academic institutions[1][2].

Beyond academic work, CRRS engages in various community service projects. Since 2016, CRRS has partnered with local charities in Vancouver to support Indigenous children with learning difficulties through tutoring programs. The society also promotes awareness of Indigenous cultures among Chinese Canadians and has designated "Eagles Rising Awareness Day" on June 22 to foster intercultural understanding[2].

CRRS runs the “Born to Shine Summer Kids Camp,” a free one-week program for inner-city children in East Vancouver, focusing on activities that build confidence, creativity, and teamwork through games, crafts, music, and educational lessons[2].

Organizational Principles

CRRS is committed to maintaining a non-political and non-profit stance in all its activities. It also emphasizes Christianity as part of its moral and spiritual framework but operates inclusively within academic and community contexts. The organization’s leadership culture stresses unconditional love, service, and healing in line with its vision to regenerate culture and serve the needs of Chinese people globally, as well as the overseas Chinese community[4].

Publications and Academic Engagement

CRRS publishes the Cultural China Academic Quarterly, an academic forum facilitating global dialogue on Chinese culture. It also hosts annual conferences, topical seminars, and produces books and audio-visual materials covering Eastern and Western philosophies, historical studies, and cultural topics to promote ongoing scholarly exchange[2].

The C.R.R.S. Culture Regeneration Research Society remains a significant nonprofit dedicated to cultural, academic, and social renewal, particularly bridging Chinese heritage with global cultural and philosophical insights while actively engaging with local communities in Canada and abroad.
