In 1954, the congregation constructed its original church building on a former farm site near the intersection of Hurontario Street and the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW). A feasibility study was undertaken that included visits to environmental centers and other congregations to inform their plans.

Their architectural approach incorporated the seven Unitarian Principles, emphasizing respect for the interdependent web of life through environmentally responsible design. The resulting building features passive solar heating via large south-facing windows, natural ventilation, energy-efficient systems, and durable materials. It was assessed to be approximately 36% more energy efficient than the Model National Energy Code for Buildings and received federal support from the Commercial Buildings Incentive Program.
