It’s time for another Association of Canadian Archivists Hashtag Party! Today’s hashtag is #ArchivesUniqueItems – and the Ajax Archives has lots of them, but we’ve chosen to highlight one you can visit. This model of HMS Ajax, the British naval ship that inspired Ajax’s name, is currently on display inside Town Hall. You might notice that the material looks interesting – that’s because it’s made with matchsticks! Douglas Hoppé served on HMS Ajax during the Battle of the River Plate and made this model while on board the ship. Douglas visited Ajax in June 2005 with his family for the naming of Hoppe Street.
