British Columbia Paraplegic Foundation
The British Columbia Paraplegic Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1975. It provides essential financial support to Spinal Cord Injury BC (formerly known as the BC Paraplegic Association) to aid in the delivery of its Peer Program and Information Services. The foundation was created following a memorial collection by employees of Premier Cablevision, which was matched by the company, amounting to over $1,000. This initial donation laid the groundwork for the foundation's growth and charitable activities.

The main objective of the British Columbia Paraplegic Foundation is to support individuals affected by spinal cord injuries, helping them adapt and thrive within their communities. It achieves this by funding programs offered by Spinal Cord Injury BC, which includes peer support, community integration, and access to information services.

Today, the foundation holds assets valued at over $10 million. It relies on investment income, donations from individuals and corporations, and legacy gifts and bequests to achieve its charitable goals.

The foundation awards annual scholarships and bursaries to students with spinal cord injuries who meet specific funding criteria. These awards support education and personal development opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The 11th Annual BC SCI Network Gathering brought together our friends and partner organizations for a day of shared learning, connection and big ideas! While each of our organizations is known for doing a lot with a little, we all recognized that we could do a whole lot more by working together. Collectively, Spinal Cord Injury BC, BC Wheelchair Sports Association (BCWSA), BC Wheelchair Basketball, The Disability Foundation and the Neil Squire Society help make BC the best place for people with physical disabilities to live, work and be active. This #BCNONPROFITDAY we're celebrating the impactful work of non-profit organizations and the vital role we play in supporting communities.
