The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Public Library Board is charged with setting the strategic direction for the entire library system, which includes eleven branches dispersed throughout the municipality. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the library’s budget and financial expenditures.
- Supporting the library through advocacy within the community and municipal government.
- Appointing the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who provides general supervision and operational leadership over the library and its staff.
The CEO/Chief Librarian acts as a liaison between the Library Board and the Municipality’s senior management team and council.

The Library Board plays an active role in community initiatives, notably participating as a stakeholder in the Chatham-Kent Community Hub project. This significant development involves collaborative input from multiple local advisory committees and boards, including the Accessibility Advisory Committee, the Municipal Museums Advisory Committee, and the Gallery Advisory Committee. The project aims to enhance public facilities, including plans to expand the library’s physical footprint as recommended in its Master Plan.
