During the second half of the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to identify opportunities and challenges in Prince Edward Island for public coastal access, ask questions of each other and our lawyers, and present ideas about the direction of a future Prince Edward Island public beach access policy or legislation, which was a recommendation in the Interim Coastal Policy Recommendations Report that the Government of Prince Edward Island has committed to implementing. Our intention is to use the feedback and input during the workshop to put together a public “what we heard” document, which we will submit to the provincial government for consideration. ECEL has teamed up with the Ecology Action Centre and the Sierra Club Canada Foundation to form the Atlantic Offshore Wind Coalition (AOSWC). The AOSWC is working to support the renewable energy transition by advancing responsible offshore wind development as a key part of Atlantic Canada’s clean energy future. On September 26 the Chronicle Herald published an Op-Ed written by ECEL Executive Director, Lisa Mitchell. In the piece, "Wind West Can Power Canada’s Future — Let’s Build It Right", Lisa speaks to the role offshore wind can play in the renewable energy transition and provides insight into what designation under the Building Canada Act may mean for Wind West. This Op-Ed is a part of ECEL’s ongoing advocacy to develop a sustainable offshore wind regime for Atlantic Canada.
