Sunshine Coast Foundation

The Sunshine Coast Foundation is a Canadian nonprofit organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) under the business registration number 896086105RR0001. It operates in the Sunshine Coast region of British Columbia, providing stable and sustainable financial support to charitable organizations from Port Mellon to Egmont.

Mission and Vision

The Foundation's mission is to connect a caring community with causes that make a difference. Its vision is to create a healthy and vibrant community where everyone belongs. To achieve these goals, the organization pools charitable giving into a single Community Capital Fund that responds to the needs and concerns of the area's residents.

Operational Model

The Sunshine Coast Foundation stewards over 85 permanent funds, the capital of which is permanently invested. The earnings from these investments are used to support annual grants to local charities. This model allows donors to increase their impact by contributing to a collective fund, which is then carefully invested and managed by the Foundation. Grants are distributed to support a range of community needs, including food and housing security, sports, and the arts.

Community Engagement

The Foundation is part of the Community Foundations of Canada, a network of over 200 foundations supporting their local communities across the country. It participates in the Vital Signs program, a national initiative led by community foundations that aims to measure the vitality of communities and support actions toward improving quality of life. In 2016, the Foundation was accredited by Imagine Canada, recognizing its adherence to high standards of governance, accountability, and transparency.

History

In 2020, the organization changed its name from Sunshine Coast Community Foundation to Sunshine Coast Foundation to minimize confusion with similarly named groups. The Foundation encourages transparency by sharing the names of donors with the creators of endowments they support, unless donors choose to remain anonymous.

By providing powerful fundraising tools and ensuring quick and secure donations, the Foundation helps charities focus on their missions rather than administration. Donors receive instant tax receipts and tax-time reminders, maximizing their tax credits and philanthropic impact.
