Constable Arthur Duncan became the first Calgary police officer to be killed in the line of duty, while nearly half of Calgary’s police officers were overseas during WWI and crime surged. He was shot while surprising a group stealing property, and his killer was never found. Duncan had served 12 years in Scotland before joining the Calgary Police Service, where he served for six more.
