Rainbow Songs Foundation
The Rainbow Songs Foundation is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free, high-quality music programs to families using shelter services in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Established in 2007 as an extension of the Rainbow Songs community, the foundation aims to support cognitive development and promote social change through music education.
Mission Statement
The foundation's mission is to act as a force for equity and social change by broadening access to high-quality music education for marginalized families with children. This includes those living in emergency short- and long-term shelters and utilizing refugee services in the GTA.
Programs
Rainbow Songs Foundation offers weekly group music classes that include fun songs and musical activities. These classes are designed to encourage participation from both children and adults, fostering a nurturing environment that supports cognitive development. The programs are taught by professional early childhood music instructors who are also part of the Rainbow Songs community.
Impact
Since its inception, the Rainbow Songs Foundation has grown to offer music programs at 5-6 shelters and refugee centers. By focusing on developing language, numeracy, and other age-specific skills through music, the foundation has helped over 5,500 families. The classes provide a safe space for parents to bond with their children, which is particularly important for families facing challenges like poverty or domestic violence.
