Tales in Line and Colour: Woodcut Prints by Naoko Matsubara Exhibition Opening: Saturday, May 17, 2025 | 3–5 PM RiverBrink Art Museum is pleased to announce the opening of Tales in Line and Colour: Woodcut Prints by Naoko Matsubara, a striking exhibition showcasing the renowned Japanese-Canadian artist’s masterful prints and collages. The works reflect Matsubara’s deep engagement with nature and Japanese folklore, highlighting her bold sense of movement, colour, and design. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, May 17 from 3–5 PM, featuring a live dance performance choreographed and performed by Noriko Yamamoto, specially created in response to the exhibition. Refreshments will be served. Admission is by donation. The exhibition runs through September 13, 2025. Special Programming: FILM SCREENING | Saturday, May 31 at 2 PM RiverBrink invites you to a special film screening that offers a deeper look into the elements essential to Matsubara’s artistic process: paper and trees. We will start with a short film directed by Spencer Cathcart and produced by Puncture Design, offering a glimpse into Matsubara's artistic process, philosophy, and life journey. This is followed by two documentaries on the traditional craft of Washi (Japanese paper) presented by the Mingei Film Archive. CURATOR TALK with Naoko Matsubara | Saturday, June 21 at 2 PM Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear directly from the artist as she discusses her creative process, influences, and the stories behind her work.
