Canadian Animal Task Force Society
The Canadian Animal Task Force Society, also known as the Canadian Animal Task Force (CATF), is a registered charity dedicated to improving the well-being of companion animals and enhancing community safety through various programs and services.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of CATF is to partner with communities to ensure that humans and animals live in harmony, guided by principles of compassion, respect, kindness, and accountability. They focus on assisting community members with resources and guidance to humanely care for their companion animals. This includes providing mentorship and training on aspects like animal bylaws, humane enforcement, licensing, and registration.
Programs and Services
- Spay and Neuter Clinics: The core program of CATF involves organizing high-volume, on-site spay and neuter clinics. These clinics are crucial in managing animal populations and reducing the number of unwanted litters, thereby enhancing animal welfare and community safety.
- Emergency Vaccination Clinics: CATF also conducts emergency vaccination clinics, which are vital in preventing and managing outbreaks of infectious diseases in animals.
- Disaster Relief: The organization offers disaster relief services for companion animals affected by natural disasters or crises, ensuring that both pets and their owners receive necessary support during challenging times.
- Community-Based Programs: CATF supports programs focused on the management and care of free-roaming community cats and dogs, promoting responsible pet ownership and welfare.
- Rescue Partnerships: The society collaborates with over 50 rescue partners to ensure that relinquished, stray, or seized animals from clinics receive proper veterinary care and are adopted into suitable homes.
Volunteer and Community Involvement
CATF is a volunteer-driven organization, offering opportunities for individuals to contribute at their office, during fundraising events, and at on-site clinics. Volunteers under the age of 18 can participate in certain roles under parental supervision on a case-by-case basis. This engagement helps foster a sense of community responsibility towards animal welfare.
History
Initially known as the Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force, the organization underwent a name change to reflect its expanded scope of services beyond spay and neuter programs. Since its inception in 2007, CATF has grown significantly, encompassing a broader range of activities aimed at improving animal welfare and community safety.

Wow, what a weekend it was! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every single volunteer who joined us for our recent clinic in the Blood Tribe (Kainai Nation). Your support, energy, and compassion made this clinic possible — we truly couldn’t have done it without you. Because of your efforts, we were able to help 690 animals from the community! Here’s what we accomplished together: 🔹 121 dog spays 🔹 113 dog neuters 🔹 58 cat spays 🔹 62 cat neuters Incredible! After reaching surgical capacity onsite, 45 animals were transported back to Calgary for surgery. Huge thanks to Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society - AARCS and Task Force Animal Hospital for getting these animals in and reunited with their families so quickly. In total, 399 animals were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tattooed, and treated for parasites, with 46 more receiving additional medical care. 💙 On top of that, 130 dogs and 112 cats were surrendered and placed with rescue groups for adoption. 13 others went for some extra TLC as Animals in Care before being returned home. We’re beyond grateful to our incredible partner rescues for stepping up in a big way: • Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society - AARCS • ARF Alberta - Animal Rescue Foundation • Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association • BARC's Rescue • Bow Valley SPCA • Cochrane & Area Humane Society • Fostering Hope Animal Rescue Foundation • GALS Animal Rescue • HEART - Hope Emergency Adoption, Rescue & Transport • Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue Foundation • Infinite Woofs Animal Rescue Society • Megan's Rescue Efforts Society • MEOW Foundation • Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation • Piña Perros Dog Rescue • Prairie Pets • Pups with Soul Rescue • Saving Grace Animal Society • Second Chance Animal Rescue Society - Alberta And to Humane World for Animals, thank you for your generous financial support — it made this work possible and changed so many lives this weekend. Thank you all for showing up, leaning in, and making an unforgettable impact. 💙💚 #spayandneuter #helpanimals #worktogether (fb)
Social anxiety? Yeah... we get it — and so do some of the cats in our care. Who else can relate? We’re currently hosting a cautious little trio in one of our cat rooms at the office — including this shy sweetheart who prefers to peek out from behind their sibling until the coast is clear. 💙💚 The timid ones — thats our type, didnt you know? CATF cares for more reserved cats until we can find the right placement with one of our partner groups. Catch the full vibe over on Instagram — sneak a peek, just like they do. 👀 (fb)
