In our lifetime, Jane Goodall has been the living embodiment of Mother Earth. She felt that animals, people, and the environment could thrive together – but for that to be possible, each of us would have to do our part. In her final years, she was a road warrior, brandishing a torch of light and love, held aloft by hands sheathed in soft vegan gloves, her war cry a call for hope in dulcet tones. “I want you to understand that we are part of the natural world. And even today, when the planet is dark, there still is hope. Don’t lose hope. If you lose hope, you become apathetic and do nothing. And if you want to save what is still beautiful in this world – if you want to save the planet for the future generations, your grandchildren, their grandchildren – then think about the actions you take each day.” Hope is the legacy we build together for a better world. May her message of hope live on through all of us. Jane Goodall joins the revered pantheon of those in human history whose names conjure up visions of kindness, goodness, wisdom and grace.
