This call resulted in a collective of passionate individuals who formally established the organization on November 21, 2007. Since its inception, the association has grown in both team size and scope to meet the environmental challenges of a rapidly growing city.

Mission and Vision

The mission of BurlingtonGreen is to empower the Burlington community to protect and care for the environment now and for future generations through programs of awareness, advocacy, and action. Its vision is a city where all residents recognize their interconnectedness and dependence on the environment and act responsibly to ensure a sustainable future for all life.

Governance and Structure

The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and led operationally by an Executive Director alongside program staff whose numbers vary based on funding availability. While it collaborates closely with the City of Burlington on various initiatives, BurlingtonGreen remains an independent entity with no formal affiliation to the city government.

Activities and Impact

BurlingtonGreen provides a dedicated environmental voice to inform and influence public policy based on research and carefully presented facts, emphasizing solution-focused approaches. Its work involves collaboration with residents, youth, businesses, organizations, and government bodies to uphold environmental rights.

Beyond advocacy, BurlingtonGreen facilitates direct environmental improvements through numerous impactful programs and community events. These include city-wide clean-ups, tree planting initiatives, electronic waste collections, educational presentations, and youth engagement through a dedicated Youth Network. The organization also offers outreach activities at its Eco-Hub located by Burlington Beach.

Strategic Planning and Community Involvement

Guided by a five-year strategic plan, BurlingtonGreen continually assesses its priorities and impact, reporting annually at its Annual General Meeting with updates and audited financial statements. The organization encourages diverse community participation to foster a cleaner, greener, and environmentally responsible city.
