Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble (operating as Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Inc., registration number 131716953RR0001) is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Ukrainian cultural heritage through dance. Founded in 1979, the ensemble derives its name from the Ukrainian word for "rose," symbolizing the intertwining of passion, artistry, and tradition in its performances[1].

History and Mission
Troyanda focuses on representing Ukraine's diverse regional dance traditions while incorporating modern artistic interpretations. The ensemble collaborates with notable Canadian and Ukrainian artists to develop its repertoire, emphasizing both historical authenticity and creative innovation[1][3]. Under the artistic direction of Paul Doroniuk and creative direction of Jenn Doroniuk, Troyanda bridges Ukrainian and Canadian cultural expressions, fostering cross-cultural appreciation[1].

Performances and Impact
The ensemble performs domestically and internationally, including appearances at festivals such as Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin, Manitoba, and the Ukrainian Pysanka Festival in Vegreville, Alberta[1][4]. Internationally, Troyanda has toured the United States, Eastern Europe, and Latin America, showcasing Ukrainian dance as a living art form[1].

Cultural Preservation and Community Engagement
Troyanda’s dancers deepen their ancestral connections through rigorous training and performances described as "soulful" and "passionate"[1]. The organization actively supports Ukrainian cultural solidarity, particularly in response to geopolitical events. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Troyanda members participated in awareness campaigns and dedicated performances to affected communities, reflecting their commitment to cultural resilience[5].

Artistic Repertoire
The ensemble’s repertoire includes choreography representing Ukraine’s ethnographic regions, ranging from the energetic Hopak to intricate Hutsul dances. Collaborations with artists such as Vince Rees, who has choreographed for the group, highlight its emphasis on both tradition and innovation[5][1].
