We’re thrilled to be presenting the Australian premiere of Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s extraordinary work Song from the Uproar at fortyfivedownstairs this October. This 90-minute chamber opera draws influences from baroque to minimalism and indie rock to tell the story of Isabelle Eberhardt, an explorer, novelist and Sufi mystic who defied convention, crossed the North African desert disguised as a man, and lived fiercely before her untimely death at 27. Olivia Federow-Yemm leads the cast as Isabelle, joined by Lisette Bolton, Leah Phillips, Olive Cullen, Tim Daly and Daniel Felton, with a powerhouse ensemble under the direction of Beng Oh and conductor and Lyric’s Artistic Director Patrick Burns.
