🌏📢 World Autism Day Recap: ASAN AUNZ Advocacy in Action 💬🌏 This World Autism Day, ASAN AUNZ Board Members were out in the community pushing for systemic change and highlighting the importance of Autistic voices in policy spaces. Here's a glimpse into what two of our Board Members, Joanne Dacombe and Cheryl Koch, were up to on the day: 🗣️ In New Zealand, Joanne spoke at New Zealand Parliament to a diverse audience of MPs, Autistic people and family members, business leaders, local councils, police, and academics. She powerfully addressed the ongoing unmet needs of Autistic people and the urgent need for inclusive policies and environments that respect, value, and support all Autistic people. Joanne’s message was clear: valuing Autistic characteristics, ensuring equitable access to support, and removing systemic barriers must be central to our work. She closed by calling on attendees to ensure World Autism Day is not just about awareness and acceptance—but action as a catalyst for real, lasting change. ☕ In South Australia, ASAN AUNZ Chair Cheryl attended a World Autism Day Morning Tea at South Australia’s Parliament House. The event included Minister for Autism Hon Emily Bourke MLC, Minister for Human Services Hon Nat Cook MP, and past ASAN AUNZ Board Members.
