Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the Midland and key regional areas to the east of Midland will soon have easier access to maternity care, with the launch of the first Moort Boodjari Mia clinical van 👶🚐 Moort Boodjari Mia - meaning Family Pregnancy House - is based at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals and provides culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey. Thanks to the generous support of Channel 7 Telethon Trust (Telethon7 Perth), Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, Wen Giving and St John of God Foundation, this new mobile service - the first of its kind in Western Australia - will allow midwives to deliver antenatal and postnatal care directly within communities. The van is fitted with diagnostic tools for newborn hearing, jaundice and anaemia screening, and can operate off-grid for extended periods thanks to solar power - ensuring essential care reaches even the most remote areas. This initiative is another step forward in providing accessible, culturally safe maternity care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. (fb)
