🌟 At the recent DVNSW Community of Practice (CoP) session, DV West CEO Catherine Gander and Manager of Aboriginal Services and Development Terrieanne Hughes spoke about strengthening support for children and young people experiencing domestic and family violence in the refuge system 🌟 Catherine and Terrieanne discussed "The Children & Young People’s Framework — for DFV Practitioners" - a comprehensive, measurable, and wholistic framework to guide DFV practitioners in supporting children and young people impacted by domestic and family violence. This framework has been developed to help practitioners: ✅ Keep children in view, give them agency, and ensure their voices are heard. ✅ Empower mothers with knowledge and tools to support their children’s healing and recovery. ✅ Strengthen mothers’ ability to advocate for their children. ✅ Identify individual risk factors in children’s lives and replace them with protective factors — with measurable outcomes. ✅ Support new experiences, holidays, and shared happy memories to build positive routines and traditions that shape a hopeful future. ✅ Help mothers and carers rebuild parenting confidence that has often been eroded by violence and control. ✅ Strengthen practitioners’ knowledge, confidence, and skills to more effectively support children and young people on their path to healing.
