In Lockhart River, Solomon Accoom is making big moves and it all started with determination and a clear goal. Eager to get into the workforce, Solomon began by handing out resumes around the community. His proactive approach led him to a role on the Yard Crew through Cape York Employment, which he then used as a stepping stone to secure a job at the local supermarket. But Solomon has his sights set even higher. With a stack of certificates already completed, he’s now working towards one more and a future in the mining industry, with dreams of becoming a supervisor. “I graduated high school and I did some courses and got some certificates, I just need one more and I’ll be qualified,” he said. He credits CYE for giving him the platform to get started: “CYE is really good and they helped me by giving me a job just to start me off. This is much better than living off Centrelink — it’s helping me pay things off, and there are more things I want to achieve.” At CYP, we believe in walking alongside job seekers and building pathways to meaningful, long-term careers.
