Carers SA has a key role in leading change and empowering Carers to participate in partnership with the government and the health and community sectors for the provision of better services, to improve the conditions under which unpaid Carers work, and to increase the recognition of the contribution of unpaid Carers to the South Australian community. Carers SA is the lead Carer Gateway provider in South Australia on behalf of the Federal Government. The Carer Gateway offers a national approach to provide reliable services, support and advice to Australia s unpaid Carers. Carer Gateway services available include counselling, peer groups, coaching, tailored support packages and emergency respite. Carers SA also receives state funding for carer breaks, intensive community connection supports and to support Young Carers within South Australia. Carers are an integral part of Australia s health system and are the foundation of our aged, disability, palliative and community care systems. Anyone, anytime can become a Carer. In Australia there are almost 2.7 million Carers and an estimated 245,000 Carers in South Australia
