🚨Stress, burnout, and job satisfaction are constant challenges for emergency department (ED) staff. Dr Elizabeth Elder is leading this EMF-funded research project, alongside Adjunct Professor Julia Crilly and a multidisciplinary team, to investigate how these factors impact ED staff wellbeing, with a focus on the unique stressors faced in emergency care settings. The study aims to uncover the key sources of stress, explore how different roles manage these pressures, and identify factors influencing staff retention. With an in-depth analysis at six sentinel sites across Queensland, including a mix of metropolitan, rural, and remote hospitals, the research aims to improve workplace culture, create stronger support systems and ultimately lead to better patient care. 👏 The DE-STRESS survey tool has attracted international interest, including a Danish study exploring its potential adaptation for use with ED clinicians in Denmark. 📝 If you are an ED staff member, your perspective is vital. Contribute to this important study by completing the survey: https://redcap.link/destress For more information, please contact the research team at DestressED@griffith.edu.au This research is supported through an EMF Leading Edge Grant, designed to fund innovative research with the potential to attract further support from major granting bodies and drive advances in emergency healthcare. #EMFResearch #emergencymedicineresearch #WorkplaceWellbeing Gold Coast Health Griffith University (fb)
💛 National Road Safety Week: Spotlight on Trauma in the Tropics This National Road Safety Week, we reflect on the powerful findings from EMF-funded research led by Dr Clinton Gibbs, Clinical Director of Research and Evaluation at Retrieval Services Queensland. The study explored trauma care in Queensland's tropics, which includes road traffic accidents, and found that people in rural and remote areas face: ◾ Higher Mortality Rates: Up to five times higher than those in urban areas. ◾ Delayed Emergency Response: Retrieval times can stretch to 12 hours, with a 19% increase in risk of death per hour for patients with severe trauma. ◾ Critical Data Gaps: Limited trauma data is holding back improvements to emergency response systems. These findings highlight the urgent need to improve trauma care systems, training and emergency care infrastructure in regional Queensland. EMF's Trauma Care Grants Program, supported by the Motor Accident Insurance Commission, is open for applications. We’re seeking clinician-led research to help close the gaps and improve outcomes for trauma patients in regional, rural and remote Queensland. Let's honor National Road Safety Week by committing to safer roads and better trauma care for all. 📌 Learn more and apply: https://emergencyfoundation.org.au/trauma-care/ 📚 Read the study: https://www.rrh.org.au/journal/article/6928/ #EMFResearch #emergencymedicineresearch #NationalRoadSafetyWeek #traumacare #NRSW Queensland Health (fb)
